Saving the Energy

devsal.blogspot.com

Today was the last day I've joined ESOL for energy course. I've learned a lot of thing especially about how to saving the energy.
Energy wee need is divided into 4 points, they are;
  1. Central heating (hot water, radiator, portable heater)
  2. Home appliances (microwave, refrigerator, freezer, rice cooker, washing machine, tumble dryer, television, DVD player, air purifier, etc)
  3. Lights
  4. Cooking
The most energy we need is central heating, and it's cost around 75% from total energy bills, because everyday we need hot water to shower, radiator in the winter and autumn, and also it's need big energy to keep our house warm. It's important to save the energy from central heating, because when we save energy, that's mean we save more money.

There are many ways to save more energy;
  1. Loft insulation, to put insulation on the loft so the heat from our house not run away to the sky.
  2. Wall insulation, the heat also can escape trough the wall that's why we also need to put insulation in the cavity wall.
  3. Double glazing, it's very expensive to install double glazing at home but it's worth for saving the energy for a long period.
  4. Secondary glazing, it's cheaper than double glazing and it's work just like double glazing. We don't need an expert to install it, just do it ourself.
  5. Drought excluder, put it windows and doors area to exclude the cold from outside.
And also there are simple ways to save more energy at home so we can save more money in our pocket;
  1. If you feel to hot, turn the heater down or turn off the heater and open the window. Some people just forget to turn off the heater, they just open the window with the heater on.
  2. Don't put wet clothes on the radiator, it's causing the heater work hard and need lots of energy to keep the house warm.
  3. Take a shower, it's need less energy than take a bath to warm the water.
  4. Put on some layer clothes to keep your body warm.
  5. Provide extra duvet when you feel cold at night.
Central heating is very important for us, for our convenience, our healthy, especially when we have elder people or babies in our house.

How to count your energy cost?
We can count our energy cost so we know how much our payment and how to control it.
Let's start with this simple example

  • 650 watts microwave, running time for 5 minutes, cost per unit is 12 pence
The formula is:
(watts : 1000) x (minutes : 60) x unit cost = cost we need to pay
  • (650:1000) x (5:60) x 12 =
  • 0.65 kWh x 0.25 hour x 12 pence = 1.95 pence
